1. Carburetor description:
Carburetor is a device that blends air and fuel for an internal combustion engine. you know that the idea behind an engine is to burn gasoline to create pressure, and then to turn the pressure into motion. A remarkably tiny amount of gasoline is needed during each combustion cycle. Something on the order of 10 milligrams of gasoline per combustion stroke is all it takes!
2. How doesn't the carburetor work:
The goal of a carburetor is to mix just the right amount of gasoline with air so that the engine runs properly. If there is not enough fuel mixed with the air, the engine "runs lean" and either will not run or potentially damages the engine. If there is too much fuel mixed with the air, the engine "runs rich" and either will not run (it floods), runs very smoky, runs poorly (bogs down, stalls easily), or at the very least wastes fuel. The carb is in charge of getting the mixture just right.
Auto engine parts
A carburetor uses intake vacuum to supply fuel to the engine. As air is pulled down through the throat of the carburetor by intake vacuum, fuel is siphoned from the carburetor’s fuel bowl and mixed with the incoming air to form a combustible mixture. At idle, the fuel enters the carburetor throat through one or small idle ports just above the throttle plate. At higher engine speeds, fuel is pulled through the main metering jets into the venture (the narrowest part of the carburetor throat). The air/fuel mixture then flows down through the intake manifold and into the cylinders where it is burned to produce power.
