The concept was developed in Sweden for their military. They needed a 100% guaranteed working fire starter that would work ALL the time under ALL conditions, even the harsh winter conditions Sweden can be subjected to.
Its 100% water proof and wind proof (no flame to put out).

By scraping the striker on the flint you generate a spark much hotter than a match, allowing you to ignite fire quickly and easily. The Fire Steel puts out sparks that burn at more than 3000 degrees Celsius!
