Answer: No, the Erasable Memo Pad works with any standard ballpoint pen.

Question: Does it really erase?

Answer: Yes. You can use the soft, flexible part of the included pen or a standard pencil eraser to remove markings.

Question: Will the pen get shorter over time as you use it to erase?

 Answer: No. None of the silicone from the pen gets rubbed off when you use it to erase. Rather, it merely rubs the ink off the silicone surface. Basically, the ink doesn't dry completely on (and therefore make a permanent bond to) the silicone surface.
