1) What is Polycarbonate?
Polycarbonate or PC is a very tough, lightweight, heat resistant and nearly unbreakable thermoplastic.
Overstatement?
Not really. It is used to manufacture bulletproof windows and enclosures as seen inside banks for its high impact-resistance and high transparency. Other products that use PC are: Hockey masks, eyeglasses, automobile parts, medical, shuttle parts for NASA space program and our fabulous Clear Chiavari Chair.
So you can rest assure your chairs will last you a long time.
2) Is Acrylic the same as Polycarbonate?
Both are thermoplastics, but with different characteristics. Acrylic has 17 times the impact resistance of glass compared to PC which has 250 times the impact resistance of glass Acrylic feels more firm, but is less resistant.
Other advantages in using PC over Acrylic is that it can handle very high temperatures (up to 250° F) and is highly resistant to chemicals and abrasives. It may scratch if cleaned with papel towels or wool rags. So the maintenance of the Clear Chiavari Chair has to be done with microfiber cloth or 100-percent cotton rags.
