Drill Presses consisted of the powered drills that could be raised or lowered into a material, allowing for less force by the user. It is a machine tool in which a rotating cutter, usually a twist drill, is pushed into a workpiece to produce a hole. A drill press (also known as a pedestal drill, pillar drill, or bench drill) is a fixed style of drill that may be mounted on a stand or bolted to the floor or workbench. A drill press consists of a base, column (or pillar), table, spindle (or quill), and drill head, usually driven by an induction motor. The head has a set of handles (usually 3) radiating from a central hub that, when turned, move the spindle and chuck vertically, parallel to the axis of the column.
Features of Drill Press
A drill press has a number of advantages as below:
1 Less effort is required to apply the drill to the workpiece. The movement of the chuck and spindle is by a lever working on a rack and pinion, which gives the operator considerable mechanical advantage.
2 The table allows a vise or clamp to be used to position and restrain the work, making the operation much more secure.
3 The angle of the spindle is fixed relative to the table, allowing holes to be drilled accurately and consistently.
4 Drill presses are almost always equipped with more powerful motors. This enables
larger drill bits to be used and also speeds up drilling with smaller bits.
5 The Spindle is made from FCD material and treated by precision grinding techniques with heavy duty bearing system.
6 The Gear box is made from tool steel with heat treatment technology. The gear is a kind of gear by high precision machining.
7 The column and worktable is made by special-purpose casting iron, by precision grinding techniques with high duty and good tolerance.
8 The main body is a high duty structure with corresponding machine weight and better strength.
