Lightning Arrestor

                                                        LIGHTNING STRIKES

     Lightning strikes can damage energisers.Damage can be minimised by disconnecting the energiser from
the fence line and disconnecting it from the power supply during electrical stroms.
     A lighting arrestor kit is recommended to minimise damage to your energiser.Lightning always finds the
easiest path to ground.Therefore the ground system of the lightning arrestor must be as good as or better
than the energiser ground.
    The choke (Fig.2) causes a blocking effect for the extremely high voltage of the lightning so that jumps the
silicon carbide discs in the arrestor and is diverted to ground.
   In areas where lightning is a major problem it wound be advantageous to have additional arrestors
dispersed over the farm in damp areas.

                                                        INSTALLATION GUIDE

   1.For a single wire fence,connect the lightning arrestor/diverter fence terminal to the fence wire with
double insulated cable,using the clamp provided.
   2.Where more than one fence wire is hot,,make sure all hot wires are connected to the lightning
arrestor/diverter.
   3.Connect ground wire by attaching double insulated cable to the Ground terminal securing nut. Attach
other end to the diverter ground system with the ground clamp. The Arrestor/Diverter Ground system
should ideally consist of a minimum of two 6’ ground rods spaced 10’ apart and 50’ from the fence
controller ground system.
   4.For greater protection,install lightning arrestors/diverters on all corners of fence. The first lightning
arrestor/diverter should be installed no closer than 50’ from the fence controller.

                     NOTE.Using the arrestors doesnot guarantee complete protection and will
                     not protect the energiser from a direct strike or lightning travelling via the
                     power supply.
