First off, if you are unsure what heavy ropes are, let me give you the Coles-notes version. They are long pieces of heavy, thick rope that you loop around a sturdy object. Holding onto each end, you then proceed to shake them up and down to produce wave-like motions with the ropes. Using the ropes is challenging, and as a stand-alone workout tool they will improve your overall strength and endurance. However, combine them with a circuit-type workout using kettlebells, dumbbells and a TRX, and you have a recipe for a hard-core body!When you first start working with the ropes, you will be amazed at how much they recruit your core, while also demanding a lot of work from the muscles of the arms, back, shoulders and legs. In fact, heavy rope training is functional training at it’s best – and something that we all could use a little more of.
