What Is tissue culture
Plant tissue culture
Basically the plant tissue culture technique consists of taking a piece of a plant (such as a stem tip, node, meristem,
embryo, or even a seed) and placing it in a sterile, (usually gel-based) nutrient medium where it multiplies. The formulation
of the growth medium is changed depending upon whether you are trying to get the plant to produce undifferentiated
callus tissue, multiply the number of plantlets, grow roots, or multiply embryos for "artificial seed".
Dendrobium candidum is not only a ornamental plant but also as a medicinal plant, which has been used in traditional
Chinese medicine for lower high blood pressure, to treat antihyperilipsis, diabetes, liver, heart and lung diseases
and has antitumor and antivirus properties. Some bioactive compounds including alkaloidsm stilbenoids, phenolics,
flavonoids,etc have been identified from different dendrobium candidum. Moreover, the key bioactive compound of
this pant is polysaccharides having immune-stimulating, anti-tumor and anti-mutagenic activies.
The wild resources of dendrobium candidum are on the brink of extinction, so we use the plant tissue culture technique
for propagation the dendrobium candidum.
