Al Cathodes are installed in a Zinc electrolytic cell to form electrode pairs with Lead anodes. The cells are electrically connected in series and a voltage is applied across the anode-cathode pair to produce Zinc on cathode surface by electro-winning process.

Loaded cathodes are periodically removed from the electro-winning cells by a lifting bale and overhead crane for stripping cathode. Blank cathodes are then returned to electro-winning cells with the lifting bale and the process is repeated.

2. Cathode design critiria 

The cathodes should be suitable for continuous operation in an electro-winning plant to produce Zinc and shall remain tolerance under all operation conditions. It also shall be suitable for repeated use and stripping using an automated cathode stripping machine.

Unionsum can supply cathode exactly according to client drawing. However, according to our experience in Cathode fabrication and application, we have some improvements on:

  • Blank material;
  • Stripping point;
  • Edge strip assembly;
  • Welding

 The above improvements will contribute to a better cathode performance.
