Calcium Ammonium Nitrate in agriculture
1. The advantages of Calcium Nitrate
l Calcium nitrate contains a high percentage of nitrate-nitrogen
l One of the most cost effective nitrate-nitrogen sources for fertigation
l The calcium is provided in a readily soluble form
l Can be used as a solid fertiliser, or as a water soluble product for use through fertigation systems
l This product is ideal for glasshouse and outdoor fertigation programmes
l When applied as a solid, there is no risk of losing any of the N as ammonia gas due to all the nitrogen being in the nitrate form

Fertilizer |
l Used as a solid fertiliser for side dressing for high value horticultural crops such as market gardens and berryfruit crops. As this product is highly soluble, it can also be used for fertigation as a source of calcium and nitrate-nitrogen for high value horticultural crops. The nitrate-nitrogen is immediately available for plant uptake, while the calcium is provided in a readily soluble form. |
Waste water treatment |
l Calcium nitrate is used in waste water pre-conditioning for odour emission prevention. |
Concrete |
l Calcium nitrate is used in set accelerating concrete admixtures. |
Cooling baths |
l The dissolution of calcium nitrate tetrahydrate is highly endothermic (cooling). |
Heat storage |
l Calcium nitrate together with Potassium and Sodium nitrate is used to absorb and store energy in the Concentrated Solar Power plants. It can be used as a heat transfer fluid instead of the thermal oil. |
Keep in a tightly closed container, stored in a cool, dry, ventilated area. Protect against physical damage andmoisture. Isolate from any source of heat or ignition. Avoid storage on wood floors. Separate fromincompatibles, combustibles, organic or other readily oxidizable materials. Containers of this material may behazardous when empty since they retain product residues (dust, solids); observe all warnings and precautionslisted for the product.
As with most solid fertilisers, Calcium Nitrate can be stored over a season as long as it is kept in a cool, dry, well ventilated area.
