Collagen Formation |
l L-proline is critical for the formation of collagen fibers throughout the body, particularly in the joints. Low levels of proline may increase the risk of developing joint strains and tears and may also hinder the body's natural healing process following an injury, where collagen needs to form to repair damaged soft tissue cells. |
Reducing the effects of atherosclerosis |
l L-proline plays a role in reducing the effects of atherosclerosis, a condition in which fatty material, such as cholesterol, collects along your arterial walls. |
Muscle Tissue Health |
l L-proline helps the body break down proteins for use in creating new, healthy muscle cells. Proline levels may drop during prolonged bouts of endurance exercise, such as running, biking or swimming long distances. During exercise, the body will begin to metabolize muscle tissue for energy when the natural glucose supplies run low. Proline may have a muscle-sparing effect in endurance athletes, protecting muscle tissue from breakdown as a result of exercise. |
