Azotobacter are nitrogen-fixing bacteria which fix molecular nitrogen present in the atmosphere; without creating any symbiotic relation with plants.

Mode of Action
Azotobacter consists of a range of enzymes required for nitrogen fixation (ferredoxin, hydogenase and nitrogenase). Nitrogen fixation requires a large amount of energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate. As the process of Nitrogen fixation is highly sensitive to oxygen, Azotobacter develops a defensive mechanism against oxygen which helps in reduction of oxygen in the cells.
Azotobacter consists of several types of Nitrogenase, which is the most importance enzyme involved in the process of nitrogen fixation. This can fix nitrogen at lower temperatures such as 5o C.
A special character of Azotobacter is that it synthesizes few biologically active substances which include phyto hormones such as auxins, stimulating plant growth.

Method of Use
Mix the recommended quantity of Azotobacter with well decomposed farm yard manure of with farm soil and broadcast uniformly followed by irrigation. Suggested to use in the evening hours.
