Galangal Plant is mainly found in the Eastern Himalayas and south west india. The Plant attains the height of 1.8 to 2 meters and has very deep roots which have orange brown color and aromatic smell. The roots are pungent and bitter. In India the root is widely used as its Indian name is Kulanjan. The fruits are generally 13mm long and have three to six seeds. The aroma of the fruits is similar to the roots.
Galangal Oil is also called ‘False ginger oil’ . It is extracted by the process of steam distillation from the roots of the tree. The oil is volatile and has camphor like the bitter taste. It is light yellow in color and has cardamom ginger like smell. Its chemical constituents are d-pinine , cineol, mythyl-cinnamate and some amount of camphor. The composition of the chemicals differs according to the soil, method of cultivation and method of extraction of oil.

It can also be used to cure fevers, colds, cough, bronchitis.it works as a stimulant in homeopathic medicine. Galangal oil is remedy to accumulated gas inside the body and even prevents further formation of gasses. Its herb is used in cooking.
History :-
Galangal is a yellow brown liquid distilled from dried roots of a reed like plant reaching a mature height of one meter. The plant is found mainly in India. In the Middle Ages its invigorating scent was used as a sexual stimulant and was considered magical as it reportedly attracted wealth, and warded off evil spirits.
In the 13th century it was used as a tea by the Turkic people and a stimulant in horses by the Arabs. In the east it was used as a snuff for nasal infections. The market for this oil is quite large and can be found in many kitchens for adding flavor to food.This rich source of iron and vitamins A and C also contains anti oxidants which are useful in removing toxins in the body.
