Botanical Name: - Cinnamomum camphora
Camphor is a waxy, flammable, white or transparent solid with a strong aromatic odor. Camphor used to be made by distilling the bark and wood of the camphor tree. It is found in the wood of the camphor laurel (Cinnamomum camphora), a large evergreen tree found in Asia and also of the unrelated kapur tree, a tall timber tree from the same region. Today, camphor is chemically manufactured from turpentine oil. It is used for its scent, as an ingredient in cooking (mainly in India), as an embalming fluid, for medicinal purposes, and in religious ceremonies. A major source of camphor in Asia is camphor basil.

Toxicity: - Camphor is poisonous in large doses. It produces symptoms of irritability, disorientation, lethargy, muscle spasms, vomiting, abdominal cramps, convulsions, and seizures.
STORAGE:-
1. In well fitted container in cool and dark place with temperature around 25° C. |
2. The drums should be kept closed when not in use. |
Uses: - Camphor is used as a plasticizer for nitrocellulose, and ingredient for fireworks and explosive munitions.
Benefits: - It is sometimes used in cases of cardiac failure, in combination with other medicines. It is also beneficial in the treatment of epilepsy, hysteria, viral diseases like whooping cough, measles, flu. food poisoning, infections of the reproductive organs, and insect bites.
