ALLANBLACKIA OIL
Specifications
The fruits and seeds are eaten by many wild animals and losses are great unless mature fruits are collected frequently.
In Ghana, the Allanblackia plant is found growing in the Western, Central, Ashanti and Eastern Regions in forest stands as well as on cocoa farms.
Allanblackia oil is a natural vegetable fat that can be used in manufacturing of food and non-food products. It consists almost exclusively of triglycerides of stearic and oleic fatty acids and it has a very sharp melting point.
This unique property of Allanblackia oil means that it is naturally solid at room temperature, but melts in the mouth, which is exactly what is required for a yellow fat or cream-based spread like margarine. It can also be used to produce other food products, soaps and body cream.
The main benefit of this oil is that, Allanblackia oil does not need further modification like fractionation, hardening, etc
Traditionally, oil extracted from Allanblackia is used for cooking, preparing medicines and soap-making at a subsistence level.
Allanblackia nuts are relatively easy to store and handle.
