The Hinoura edged tools workshop is Japan's leading blade forging production
center, in Sanjo, Niigata.
The tools are handmade one-by-one by craftsmen who have
undergone rigorous training.
The third generation of the Ajikataya, Hinoura Tsukasa,
is a certified "Niigata Master" and represents craftsmen of the Sanjo workshop.
His edged tools have received high appraisals at home and
abroad as pieces that spread the Japanese tradition of
blade forging technology to succeeding generations.
The hatchet has been used since ancient times for work in the mountains and
hunting and more recently for all kinds of outdoor interests including camping,
mountain stream fishing and mountain vegetable picking.
Product Description
It is small with a blade length of 150 mm,
yet it is a double-edged sword hatchet with a distinguished sharpness.
A handy size similar to that of a pocket knife.
The handle is made from sturdy oak. Easy to grip and fits comfortably in the hand.
The tip of the blade can be used for work, so in addition to cutting work,
it can be used for a variety of applications including pruning and digging.
Very finely sharpened.

Our Services
We will introduce you to part of the work process.
It is produced from iron and steel.
1. Building the Iron Base ( Building)
Soft iron is prepared in all sizes and shapes with the appropriate method.
* For the Blade *
The iron base is heated in a furnace to about 800 degrees and
the part which joins with the handle is built.
* For the Double-edged Blade*
The iron base is heated in a furnace to about 800 degrees and
is divided by a groove made where the steel joins using a chisel.
2. Steel Built (Metal Workshop)
The task of hammer welding the steel to the iron base.
After knocking lightly two to three times with a small hammer,
is hammered out with a spring hammer.
3. Engraving
The task of hammering the respective trademarks in a predetermined position. Engraved by hand and hammered out.
4. Mud Painting
Mud (polishing powder) is coated evenly over all of the hatchet which
is then dried on top of the furnace to give a rust effect.
5. Hardening
The task of making the steel firm.
It is heated to about 780 degrees in the furnace and placed in
a water bath to cool quickly and harden the steel.
6. Forming the Blade
The task of forming the blade.
A grindstone is used on the part that will become the blade and
while running water over it, the blade is formed to its specified angles.
7. Clearing
The task of performing the final polish on the flat surface.
8. The Finish
The task of fixing the tip angle of the hatchet and polishing the back.
9. Complete!!
