Sutherlandia frutescens is an attractive shrub about 0.5m to 1m in height, with orange-red flowers.Sutherlandia frutescens is regarded as one the most beneficial ofthe medicinal plants in Southern Africa, with the leaves having been used by diverse culturalgroups since traditional times for medicinal purposes.
The plant is a highlyeffective adaptogen, as it helps the immune system to adapt to diseaseand stress. Its common uses are to stimulate the appetite in severely ill andemaciated patients, and in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes (as it regulatesand stabilises blood sugar levels).
