Description
The Sage as astringent, stimulant and tonic is perhaps best of all others of the same family. It causes a heat stomach, facilitates digestion, increases diuresis accelerates movement, has significant effects on the brain and alleviates irritation of the nervous system, as an anticonvulsant and sedative drug.
It acts as carminative, antispasmodic, antiseptic, astringent and antiperspirant. It is the classic remedy for inflammation of the mouth, throat and tonsil, after the volatile oils soothe mucous membranes. It can be used internally as well as a mouthwash, for inflammation and bleeding of the gums (gingivitis), inflammation of the tongue (glossitis), or generalized inflammation of the mouth (stomatitis). It is beneficial and mouth sores (ulcers). As gargles helps in the treatment of laryngitis, tonsillitis and peritonsillar abscess. It is valuable carminative and used in indigestion.
A property of the herb is a little paradoxical. When we take in small doses is diaphoretic and for this use in bronchitis, influenza, etc. but if we take a larger dose acts as an antiperspirant for this use during the night sweating.
How to use: Prepare as an infusion of 1 in 100 if you want light or 1 in 25 if we are strong. The beverage drink TID. For mouth rinses do deep gargle with hot drink for 5-10 minutes several times a day.
