Description
Argan oil commonly known as “liquid gold”, Argan oil has both dietary and cosmetic advantages for those who use it. The oil is extracted from the kernels of the Argan tree or “Tree of Life”, which can live for up to 450 years. It takes 12 to 20 hours to hand press one liter of Argan oil, which has a similar fat content to olive oil. This is one reason the oil can be expensive to purchase. Argan oil has a shelf life of about three to six months; the unpressed kernels are good for up to 20 years.
Cosmetically, Argan oil can be used on the skin to help fight against aging by making the skin more elastic and the effects of weather by keeping it properly hydrated. It is most often used on the hair, nails, face and body. Some of the most impressive results from using the oil have come from those with scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, dry skin and skin conditions like eczema or rosacea. Because it helps to keep the pH balance of the skin at a normal level and regulates sebum, the natural oil produced by the skin, Argan oil protects users from ultraviolet rays and has been used effectively on skin that has suffered burns - either from accidental events or from sunburn.
