Q: How many treatments will I need and how frequently should they be scheduled?
A: Every person is different and reacts to cosmetic procedures in an individual way, but generally six (6) to ten (10) microdermabrasion treatments are required for most people to achieve optimal results. The appointments can be scheduled anywhere from ten (10) to twenty eight (28) days apart.
Q: When do microdermabrasion results become visible?
A: Results are often times, immediate. We're not talking life-altering results here, but a nice, clean, smooth feeling is apparent directly after. Your skin will look cleaner and healthier after a few microdermabrasions, but changes like reduction of fine wrinkles and scars may become visible after six (6) treatments.
Q: Can microdermbrasion help reduce large pores?
A: Yes. Microdermoabrasion stimulates collagen production which is why it works on large pores. The vacuum function of most microdermabrasions tools sucks out hardened oil, dust and other dirt, which may clog your pores. This way, the oil in the glands can again reach the surface of your skin and your pores can return to their natural shape and size.
Q. Are there any risks or side effects?
A: There are virtually no side effects and it is virtually risk-free. Microdermabrasion is non-invasive and mild, so you have nothing to worry about. Make sure, however, that proper sterilization and sanitization practices are used on the microdermabrasion equipment and within the office the procedure is being performed. That way, the risk of infection is practically zero.
Q: What should I expect after microdermabrasion?
A: During the first 24 hours, your skin may feel dry, or slightly pink similarly to effects of a mild wind or sunburn. Use lots of moisturizer during the first few days. Avoid sun exposure for at least a week after the treatment, don't use any peeling products for the next 3-4 days and avoid full-face make up (liquid foundation or pressed powder).
Q: Is it safe for all skin types?
A: Microdermabrasion is effective on all skin colors and types. Although for very sensitive skin types other methods of exfoliation should be considered. Microdermabrasion is a particularly good alternative for skin types sensitive to chemical peels.
Q: How much time should I set for my treatment?
A: Your appointment will take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes to complete, depending on whether you are looking for a simple microdermabrasion treatment or an enhanced procedure.
Q: Will I experience any discomfort during treatment?
A: Microdermabrasion treatment is painless. You will feel the suction from the vacuum and the diamond tip passing through your skin, but there is no need for topical anesthetics or painkillers.
Q: Is microdermabrasion suitable for me?
A: If your goal is to get rid of superficial acne scars, blotchy skin, large pores, age or sun spots, fine wrinkles or uneven skin tone and texture, you are a perfect candidate for microdermabrasion. Individuals with deeper wrinkles will benefit from a combination treatment of microdermabrasion and IPL skin rejuvenation.
Q: Can I undergo microdermabrasion treatment during pregnancy?
A: Care must always be taken with pregnant or lactating women and their individual circumstances need to be assessed, but most women can undergo diamond microdermabrasion treatment. However, aftercare products containing Retin A, hydroquinone, AHA's, or any chemical peels such as glycolic should not be used in conjunction to microdermabrasion. Pregnant woman's skin may be more sensitive during the pregnancy due to hormonal changes, so gentler settings should be used. Crystal microdermabrasion should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation stages.
