♣ What is Toslink?
Toslink cable (also known as an SPDIF Digital Optical cable) is composed of an optical fiber cable with an SPDIF connector at either end. The name TOSLINK comes about simply from the conjunction of the two words “TOShiba-LINK” and is a registered trademark of the Toshiba Corporation. Generically a Toslink cable is called an SPDIF Optical Cable.
TOSLINK technology is commonly found in video and audio equipment. With the recent improvement to this technology this can also increasingly be found on a range of newer Dolby Digital surround sound receivers.
♣ What can make a difference in the sound of digital signal?
The sonic differences among digital audio cables are caused by jitter (also known as clock phase noise), which occurs as digital processors intermittently lose track of the digital bitstream. Jitter spreads the digital data out over time, smearing or blurring of the sound after the digital-to-analog reconstruction. In short, jitter degrades sound quality by losing parts of the signal and replacing them with noise and distortion.
♣ Why quartz glass fiber is better than plastic fiber?
As we know, Plastic fiber Toslink is more common than quartz glass fiber Toslink in audio market. Due to insufficient clarity, plastic fiber is high attenuation of light, high dispersion, and is not enough bandwidth to create an inherently superior connection.
Data grade quartzglass optical fiber provides ultimate purity than plastic fiber, and will not haze or discolor over time like plastic will. Thus ensures an uninterfered signal transmission channel to deliver the most accurate digital audio data.
HCI quartz glass optical fiber Toslink cable is constructed from 400 individual strands of 0.05mm data grade broadband quartz glass optical fibers to minimize jitter, providing sharper, cleaner leading edges on the digital waveform.
