Si Metal Slag

Introduction of silicon slag:

Slag material is a byproduct from production of silicon metal of ≥99% purity.   To ensure the quality of the silicon metal, top portion of the melt is separated when draining from the electricarc furnace. The less pure portion of silicon metal typically contains higher contents of iron, aluminum, calcium and other slag.  With the employment of density separation machines, different grades of silicon slag are segregated efficiently.

Silicon slag isproduct from the manufacturer of silicon metal, it is a kind of mixture which contains the main content Silicon (30%~70%) and other components such as C, S, P, Al, Fe. It is a good substitute for FeSi in steel making, which has advantage in lowing the cost of production and reusing resource. Usually we use silicon slag to produce silicon briquette which is far and wide market in domestic and international.

Usage:

The silicon slag is much cheaper than ≥99% purity silicon metal, and has many industrial applications. For example, It is

1. Used as deoxidizing agent in steel production to reduce oxygen levels in the melt via reaction such as Si + 2 O (in liquid Fe)> SiO2 (SiO2 is formed as a solid dispersed in molten Fe, and subsequently floats to the surface of the melt. It is removed by either skimming or by draining molten iron from the bottom);

2. Use as deoxidizing agent in the production of magnesium, chromium and other metals via the same mechanism;

3. Used in the production of lower grade of Si3N4 in a cost effective manner, the material is suitable for refractory applications such as refractory bricks and other high-temperature applications;  

4. An economical feedstock in the manufacture of silica sol or colloidal silica;

5. A low cost feedstock in the manufacture of organosilyl derivatives and silicone products

Chemical composition:

Size of particles: 10-60 mm, 1-3mm, 0-3mm or as requirements

Other Conditions:

1. Silicon slag(off grade silicon) is a by-product when making silicon metal.

2. the silicon content is from 45% to95%, and the rest are C, S, P, Al, SiO2, Fe, Ca etc.

3. The silicon slag is much cheaper than purity silicon metal, and has many industrial applications.

4.Silicon content from 30~50% is used for silicon addition for iron making in the blast furnace and cupola;

5.Silicon content from 50~70% is used for the deoxidization of steel making.

6.It is a good substitute for ferro silicon in steel making which has advantage in reducing the making cost.

7.The silicon slag powder can be made silicon briquette which has far and wide market at home and abroad.

8.it is used as deoxidizer in steel making.
