pentaerythritol is a  White crystal powder without any visible foreign matters. Soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol, dissolvable in benzene, ether and petroleum ether etc. Esters will be formed by reaction with common organic acid, no reaction take place when heated with dilute caustic solution.
