Grinding Machine Tools for Grinding Polishing
grinding machine tools for grinding polishing
The most important property of an abrasive is its hardness. For abrasive grains to effectively cut, they must be significantly harder than workpiece material. They can be grouped based on their hardness into two categories:
conventional abrasive and superabrasives.

Got different finish with different grit of abrasive:
#3 Finish
Also known as grinding, roughing or rough grinding, a preliminary finish applied before manufacturing, Like
deburring and removing excess weld material. It is coarse in appearance and applied by using 36-100 grit abrasive.
#4 Architectural finish
Also known as brushed, directional or satin finish, which is characterized by fine polishing grit lines. It is produced by polishing the metal with a 120-180 grit belt and then softened with an 80-120 grit greaseless compound or a medium no woven abrasive belt.
#4 Dairy or sanitary finish
This finish is commonly used for the medical and food industry and almost exclusively used on stainless steel. This finish is much finer than a #4 architectural finish. It is produced by polishing with a 180-240 grit beltl.
#6 Finish
Also known as a fine satin finish, which is produced by polishing with a 220-280 grit belt.
#7 Finish
A #7 finish is produced by polishing with a 280-320 grit belt and sisal buffing with a cut and color compound. This is a semi-bright finish will still have some polishing lines but they will be very dull.
#8 Finish
Also known as a mirror finish, which is produced by polishing with at least a 320 grit belt, this part will remove all defects on the surface. This finish is sisal buffed and then color buffed to achieve a mirror finish.
How to get a mirror finish:
The first stage:
start with a rough abrasive( perhaps 60 or 80 grit)
The next stage:
uses a finer abrasive such as 120,180,220,240,320,400 and higher grit abrasives, until the desire finish is achieved.
- The rough( i.e. large grit) passes remove imperfection within the metal surface like pits, nicks, lines and scratches.
- The finer abrasive leave progressively finer lines that are not visible to nake eye.
