Talc is a kind of mineral substance made of magnesium metasilicate, whose molecular formula is 3Mgo•4SiO2•H2Oor Mg3 [Si4O10] (OH) 2. Its Moh's hardness is 1.0 and density is 2.7-2.8g/cm3. Talc belongs to monoclinic system and appears to be pseudohexagonal or rhombic pieceoccasionally. Generally, it appears like dense bulk or foliaceous, radial and threadiness assemblage. Talc possesses lubricating property, refractoriness, fluidizer, acidoresistance, insulativity, high melting point, inactive chemical property, excellent hiding rate, softness, good gloss, strong adsorbability and other fine physical as well as chemical characteristics. Since the crystal structure of talc appears to be laminar, it tends to split into squamae and possesses special lubricating property. It is widely applied to plastics, papermaking, chemical engineering, paint, coating, ceramics, wire and cable, rubber and other industrial products.
