Mezzanines of this type can have several different types of floors, such as bar grating, wood, metal planking, or even diamond plate. The floor loading is determined by several factors, but can generally be designed to hold 50 to 250 lbs. per sq. ft.

Stairways can be internal or outside of the unit, with a platform at the top.

Some factors to consider when deciding on a mezzanine and the type of floor are total weight to be placed on the mezzanine framework, both active and permanent. What light and/or heat needs to pass thru the floor, sprinkler requirements, code and tax considerations.

The type of mezzanine installed is sometimes determined based on if the building is rented or owned. If owned the installation can be more permanent.
