1. Does the base separate from the filter?
The base does not separate from the filter.
2. Is the mesh finer than other steel coffee cones or fine tea strainers? Any sediment in the cup?
The mesh is super fine. You an use very small grind if you like, but bear in mind that the finer the grind, the longer it takes for the water to flow thru the coffee.
3. What keeps the hot water from running out the sides and making a mess?
Add water slowly.
4. Is this dishwasher safe?
Hand wash in hot water for each use. Rinse well.
