Gabions shall be manufactured from double twist hexagonal woven wire mesh in accordance with EN10233-3
Mesh wire
Style 1 Hot-dipped galvanized wire
Style 2 Galfan (Zn-5-Al) coated wire
Style 3 PVC + Galvanized coated or PVC + galfan coated
The nominal mesh wire for the body of the gabions shall be 2.0mm-3.0mm in diameter
and of a nominal 2.7mm-3.4mm for the selvedge wire. The diameter of lacing wire should be 2.0-2.4mm (at the ratio 5% of the box/mattress weight) .Both the body wire and the selvedge wire, lacing wire shall be in accordance with EN 10218-2 and EN 10223-3.
Mesh size
The mesh openings shall be hexagonal and of nominal dimension of 60X80mm, 80mmx100mm, 100X120mm and shall conform to EN10223-3.
EN 10223-3 standard:
1. Steel
Base metal of hexagonal mesh has a tensile strength which ranges between 350 N/mm2 and 500N/mm2 with an allongement of 10% minimum as per EN10016-1 and EN10016-2
2. Zinc coating
Zinc and Galfan ( Zinc –alloy with 5% of aluminum) coating varies according to wire diameter and ranges from 215gr/m2 to 275gr/m2 to confirm EN10244-2 Class A Standard.
3. Organic coating
PVC coating (1mm thickness),when required, will confirm to EN10245-1 and EN10245-2 Standards.
Tolerances:
a) Wire diameter subject to usual tolerances as per EN10218-2 Standard.
b) Hexagonal mesh sizes as per 10223-3 Standard
c) Zinc coating according to EN 10244-2 Class A Standard.
d) Length and width of gabions have a production tolerance of 3% and height of 5%.
