Until now, gas springs were used for opening bonnet and boot of cars. At present in the furniture-industry mechanical springs are being used for opening beds. It is a new solution in the furniture industry so gas spring takes the place of mechanical springs.

This spring is good for opening beds with drawers. With using bed fittings gas springs the opening and the closing of the upper part of beds happen the same like using traditional spring. The closing comes to pass damped.

Essentially, a gas spring is a sealed cylinder including a piston rod which can be pushed into the cylinder. It contains natural/environmental friendly/ nitrogen gas and a very small amount of oil. On both side of the piston there is equal pressure. The pressurized gas press the rod out from the cylinder as the piston surface is smaller on the rod side.

The console (supporting) gas spring is a special version of the standard gas springs, in which the piston is equipped with a spring locking valve in the direction of inward pushing. This locking valve opens only at a given pressure difference. Consequently this inward pushing force is increased by force obtained from the pressure difference. The extension movement of the rod is unhindered and the force of extension is unchanged. The console gas spring is favorable used where it can lift the weight of a moving member (window, door, cover etc.) only with external help but it can hold at any optional position.

Gas springs have appropriate corrosion prevention.

Recommendation for installation:

- Gas spring is suitable to carry axial force only.

- If there is radial load then ball-and-socket joint must be applied.

- It is advisable to install gas spring in a position when rod is pointing downwards. In this way of installation the improved lubrication condition increases the gas spring's life.
