Silk is a fabric that makes its own statement. It is beautifully elegant and luxurious and feels incredibly soft and sensual. We use a higher than average for our silk (19mm) so it looks richer, fits more beautifully, and feels even more indulgent. Best of all, it is relatively easy to care for and with good care will last longer.

Fun fact: – Silk is one of the oldest textile fibers known to man and is the strongest natural fiber. A steel filament of the same diameter as silk will break before a filament of silk!

Silk Charmeuse – Silk made with a satin weave which is soft, yet supple and drapes beautifully. The front side of the fabric has a satin finish, lustrous and glossy, and the back has a matte finish. This is the smoothest of the silk weaves.

Silk Crepe – Silk yarns are tightly twisted together during weaving which produces a tiny pebbly texture to create a lightweight fabric with a great deal of surface interest. Fabric is soft, has an excellent drape, and captures colors and prints beautifully.

Two main methods to identify silk fiber are eye survey and combustion test.

The first one is eye survey:

1.Silk fiber is bright, soft and pearl like while chemical fiber is bright and dazzling.

2.Silk fiber is slender and long while cotton fiber is short. Wool curls up while chemical fiber is trim.

3.In the respect of handle, silk fiber is soft, smooth and comfortable to the touch.

The second one is combustion test.

1.While burning silk fiber, it will shrink and smells like burning feathers. It will self sustaining burning slowly with glimmer and finally be self-extinguishing. The ash is brittle, crisp, fluffy and black.

2.The rayon (viscose) smells like burning paper mixed with chemical. It burns fast and produces no ash.

3. Cotton and hemp burn immediately once getting close to fire. They burns fast and smell like paper . Moreover, they can keep in burning with soft and gray ash.

4.The burning situation of wool is similar to silk.You can visually see the difference between the them. 

   Identify Real Silk                                                                    

1. Flames:

- Genuine quality silk: Burning genuine silk produces a smell very similar to that of burning human hair. The flame is close to invisible when burning the edge of the real silk fabric. Very soon after the flame source is taken away from the fabric, the silk will self-extinguish.
- Fake silk: Most fake silk are in fact petroleum based polyester products. When burned, these materials tend to combust rapidly in intense flames, and give a smell of burning plastic.

2. Ashes

- Genuine silk: The ash from burning is black, crispy and turns to powder easily when grinded.
- Fake silk: The ash of fake silk tend to be sticky, twisted, and difficult to break apart.
