Electric Bike Motor - Front Wheel or Rear Wheel?

The requirements, advantages and disadvantages of front versus rear wheel hub motor conversion.

Front Wheel E-Bike Conversion:

Requirements:

-100mm between front dropouts
-MUST use a Universal Torque Arm & C-Washer (when appropriate with certain alloy or quick release forks) 
**Using the "C-Washers", the "Inside Safety Washers" as well as a Universal Torque Arm ensures a safe to install of the front wheels on "non-steel" & quick release forks.

Upside:

-Easy install (no derailer adjustments)
-Improved weight distribution (assuming battery is above rear wheel)

Downside:

-Decreased traction off road or in wet condition on steep inclines.

Rear Wheel E-Bike Conversion:

Requirements:

-135mm between rear dropouts
-Universal Torque Arm is Highly suggested

Upside:

-ISO Disc Brake Compatible
-Better traction off road & in wet conditions

Downside:

-Increases weight in back (assuming battery above rear wheel creates more stress on rear wheel)
-Limited to 7 speed freewheel. Available freewheels are 1 speed, 5 speed, 6 speed or 7 speed
-Minor adjustment may be required for derailer if coming down from anything above a 7 speed freewheel
