An automatic rappel fall prevention device is a piece of personal protection equipment; it should be allocated to a single user (it can only be used by one person at a time). When the user moves (up or down), the cable winds onto and unwinds from a pulley. The cable is kept taut by means of a return spring. In the event of a fall, a system locks the cable and prevents it unwinding, thus stopping the fall instantly.

L’émerrillon haut is linked to an anchor point by a connector (EN362) and the other end (cable or strap) is attached onto a safety point on a harness. Sharp edges, small diameter structures and corrosion should be avoided as they may affect the performance of the cable or strap; or they should be adequately protected.
