Ductility:
- Tough, PE conduit will better resist brittleness with age or cold weather.
Continuous Coils:
- Fewer joints ideal for directional drilling and plowing
- Greater flexibility in system design
Flexibility:
- Follows the trench contours
- Can be installed around obstacles underground
- PE conduit bends and flexes without breakage, even with ground heaves or shifts, over a wide range of temperatures.
Coefficient of Friction (COF):
- 30% lower than PVC
- Improves the effectiveness of lubrication
- Longer pull lengths so manholes are placed farther apart
Resistant to:
- Chemical: Resistance to corrosive chemicals/ aggressive soils
- Corrosion: HDPE is non-conducting
- Bacterial: No host nutrients for bacterial/ fungal growth
Temperature Range:
- Remains ductile at low temperatures
- PE withstands low temperature impact better than any other material. This is illustrated by impact testing on PE conduit conditioned at 4ºF as compared to other materials conditioned at 73ºF.
- PE conduit can be installed over an ambient temperature range of -30ºF to 180ºF. Power conductors rated at 90ºC and medium voltage cable rated at 105ºC are permitted for use with PE Conduit.
