Cleaning

Wondering how to clean woks? Cleaning a wokis actually easier than other pots and pans, once it has been seasoned well. Proper cleaning and care will make it last longer and work better. It needs to be cleaned instantly after use.

Things You Will Need

  • A Plastic Scraper or Pancake Turner
  • A Scrub Brush
  • Hot Water
  • Paper Towels
  • Vegetable Oil

Guidelines

  • When the wok is slightly warm, pour a good amount of clean water into the oven.
  • Put the lid on and heat it for a few minutes and then let it cool for another few minutes.
  • When it's cool enough to work with, use a plastic food scraper or sponge to scrape off the remains of food which be soft and loose by now
  • Use a scrub brush if you need to get rid of stubborn build up.
  • Get rid of the dirty water and rinse the oven with clean water.
  • Thoroughly dry the Dutch oven and then using a paper towel rub a little bit of unflavored vegetable oil all over the inside and outside surface. Use a clean paper towel to wipe off all excess oil so there is just a thin film of protection from moisture
  • Once you have a good, solid seasoned coating over the oven you can use soap to wash it down further but hopefully that should not be required.

Tip

In the Midwest and other humid area, Dutch ovens are more prone to rusting and need extra attention and care than a drier location such as Colorado.  Maintaining a solid seasoned coating and that slight film of oil will keep your cookware rust-free and in tip-top condition.

Cleaning Dutch oven should be a piece of cake now that you know how. Treat your Dutch oven good and it will serve you well for a long time to come.
