Betel leaf oil is extracted from crushed betel leaves and stems that are collected from betel vines. The process of steam distillation is used for the purpose of extraction. Betel is native to southern Asia and is largely grown in India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and the southern parts of China. Botanically, betel belongs to the pepper family. The betel leaf is also referred to as a piper betel leaf.
