How to:Plant a Raised Bed
Planting in a Hitac raised bed gives you big surface area to grow big time plants. Grow veggies like, cucumbers, peppers, and radishes. Plant a beautiful flower arrangement for the ultimate statement piece. Or, for the urban farmer, plant lettuce with veggies to creat the freshest salad for your next dinner party.
Assemble your Raised Bed which comes with 2 longer pieces of bamboo that serve as removable handles, and two smaller bamboo that serve as side supports to maintain shape. Place your larger bamboo through the loops on each short side, and your smaller bamboo through the samll loops in the middle, propping up the sewn in bamboo on each long side like a "T".
Fill your raised bed with soil 3/4 high, and then plant your starter veggies, herbs, or flowers. Next, fill soil to the top of the bag.( As your bag moves, it will settle, and may require some additional soil)
Plant your strawberry starter plants by gently loosening their roots and plugging them into each pocket. Finally, water again slowly and evenly till water begins to drip or saturate the base.
Maintain your plants by watering regularly. For flowers, remove browning buds and leaves. This is called "dead heading," and is a great way to give your plants more life! For lettuce plants, gather leaves often to prevent bitterness.
