High Simulation Painting of  Shi Kuixiadie tu

Two butterflies flutter elegantly above a hollyhock in full bloom. The elaborate fine brush lines with pigments is seldom seen in Dai Jin's work. The artist rendered this painting with delicate strokes and refined colors, retaining the exquisiteness of the academic painting style of the Song dynasty (960-1279), as well as absorbing the elegant verve of the "boneless technique" of the Yuan dynasty master Qian Xuan (ca. 1239-1299). At the bottom of the painting, the rocks by the lake are roughly textured, showing the vivid contrast against the insects and flowers.
A widely acclaimed painter, Dai Jin is credited with founding the "Zhe school" (named after
Zhejiang province, in which Hangzhou, the Southern Song capital, was located). Since childhood, he was influenced by his father Dai Jingxiang, an artisan-painter. He was particularly talented at painting portraits and the images of Buddha which were placed in the temple. He was expert in the vigorous and natural landscape painting in his late years.
