Myopia is a symptom of the vision problem. In some people´s eyes, myopia is important but for some other´s, it is not so important. Many people think that the myopia caused by bad habit is a little case and a pair of glasses can solve it. Besides, there is a kind of myopia which will happen in the early time and is connected with gene. It is called pathologic myopia or progressive myopia. Now, in China, there are a lot people with myopia. But the most of them are simple myopia. Simple myopia and pathologic myopia are all in the range of myopia, but the principle and result are quite different. Simple myopia is caused by bad habit of using eyes, commonly happens in teenager. Wearing glasses can control its development and also the surgery. For pathologic myopia, it happens before 12 years old and wearing glasses or doing surgery could not stop the degree development completely. Pathologic myopia is also called degenerative myopia. It is a kind of progressive myopia and the morbidity is 1%-2% in China. The development of this myopia is very fast and the degree will increase after 25 years old. The clinical symptom of it is the constantly growing of the axis oculi. The degree will increase with the age and damage the retina and choroid.
There will be a terrible decline of naked vision for a pathologic myopia patient and commonly the vision will be lower than 0.1. Even with glasses and contact lenses, their vision ability will not be a normal lever. The eyeball will be bigger and longer and the patient will with eye pain, headache, nausea, insomnia when seeing something.
High myopia will with pathologic changes of the eye and the high myopia is a kind of autosomal recessive disorder. This means only a pair of disease gene will cause high myopia and if a disease gene and a healthy gene will not cause it. If a child´s parents are both high myopia patients, the rate of this child being high myopia is 90%.
Pathologic myopia´s degree is high, and the vision is not clear. It will cause complications, because pathologic myopia patients usually have high intraocular pressure. Its complications includes eye disease (Retinal degeneration inflammation, sublatio retinae and macular hemorrhage are all common and serious complications), posterior staphyloma (the thinning and swell of posterior scleram), cataract (clouded lens), and glaucoma (high intraocular pressure), amblyopia and strabismus (With high myopia when young is easy to be suffered amblyopia)
