HISTORY

HMS Trincomalee  was a frigate built shortly following the end of the Napoleonic Wars at Bombay for the British. She was laid down in 1816, together with her sister ship HMS Amphirite and launched in October 1817. She is now restored as a museum ship in Hartlepool, England.

The ship was named Trincomalee after the 1782 Battle of Trincomalee. The Trincomalee was one of two surviving British frigates of her. After being ordered on 30 October 1812, the Trincomalee was built in Bombay, India by the Wadia family as 38-gun Leda class frigates. Almost all of them were of oak, but the two Bombay ships were made of Malabar teak.

Trincomalee finished her Royal Navy service as a training ship, but was placed in reserve again in 1895 and sold for scrap two years later on 19 May 1897. She then renamed Foudroyant in honour of HMS Foudroyant  and now listed as part of the National Historic Fleet.

Packaging & Shipping

Model will be extremely well packaged in a sturdy wooden crate and put in a carton box for maximum protection. The ship inside is tied down with many bungee cords and cushioned with wooden bars or foam blocks to protect it from moving sideways and upwards.
