What is a Clutch Release Bearings ?
Clutch release bearings are a type of thrust bearings which are sometil11es referred to as clutch throw Out bearings. Their main function is to release the clutch which reducing friction between the pressure plate levers and the release fingers. They are an integral part of all clutch operations and are located behind the release plate within the clutch assel11bly. These bearings constitute a ball bearing and a collar assembly and they may either be controlled mechanically of hydraulically. The bearing surrounds the input shaft of the transmission and is designed to move axially.

Clutch release bearings are pre-lubricated sealed unit packs which are attached to the forked end o of the throw out lever. They have a sliding sleeve with is usually made up of a noise insulating and vibration damping material.
These bearings may either be mechanically or hydraulically controlled.
Where could we use Clutch Release Bearings ?
The clutch moves the clutch release bearing axially along the input shaft of the transmission enabling it to move into and out of engagement with the clutch lever. The clutch release bearing moves towards the flywheel when the clutch pedal is pressed down. This causes the clutch release fingers to separate the clutch pressure plate from the stationary clutch disc causing the disengagement of the clutch for the shifting of transmission gears. Once the gears have been engaged, the clutch pedal is released causing the clutch release bearing to move away from the pressure plate to engage the clutch to the flywheel. The bearing remains stationary at the time the clutch is fully engaged.
