Our range if uv exposure units can be used to make hot foil polymer plates, pad printing cliches, uv processed sign making materials and PCBs. The Xeros range of single and double sided (DS) vacuum bed UV units feature an attractive low profile aluminium case, and are fitted with an advanced electronic timer controller. The timer is controlled from a touch membrane panel that includes a digital display which reads from 0 - 999 seconds.
The lid is raised and lowered with the assistance of internally fitted gas struts, and a safety cut out device is incorporated to prevent the tubes from operating when the lid is raised. Mains power is introduced via a fused I.E.C panel mounted socket, which incorporates a separate double pole ON/OFF rocker switch.
Operation of the unit is simple. Set the time in seconds, close the lid and press the start button. An integral vacuum pump then begins and first removes the air from the chamber to ensure perfect contact between artwork and material to be exposed. After vacuum has been achieved, the exposure cycle begins. During exposure, the timer counts down and once the cycle is complete, the display returns to the original setting, an exposure complete light illuminates, and a buzzer sounds for 3 seconds. (Note that the lid can only be released once a valve releases the vacuum.) The exposure complete light will remain on until the lid is lifted, which acts as a safeguard against the possibility of double exposure cycles.
How does a hot foil printer work?
Traditional hot foil printing machines, also referred to as hot stamping machines, use either a metal printing plate (die) or traditional printing type in the form of loose letters to hot stamp the required image onto the product. The process begins with the production of a printing plate, or the setting of type (generally used when only initials, names or short areas of text will be printed).
Once the die has been produced, it is placed on the heated print-head of the hot foil stamping machine and brought up to temperature. Using a combination of heat, pressure and dwell time, the design is transferred from the die or type, through the coloured foil and onto the product. The entire hot foil printing cycle takes less than a second per item (excluding the time to locate and remove the item from the machine).
There are a few products that do not lend themselves to being printed with hot foil printers, such as - products made from metal, glass or ceramic substrates. If you would like to print such items you will need to consider buying a manually operated pad printer or manually operated rotary screen printer. Alternatively you can consider a semi automatic pad printing or semi automatic cylindrical screen printing system. In general, products suitable for hot foil printers are usually flat in profile, although it is also possible to produce shaped printing plates and appropriate tooling for more complex industrial applications.
