LED G4(Surface Mounted Diode) light are designed with 10 SMDs extra bright SMD5050.equivalent to a 15W G4 halogen bulb. The G4 halogen is one of the most common lamps used in caravans and motorhomes and is easily identified as a small glass lamp with two short pins spaced 4mm apart. The G4 halogen is commonly used in ceiling lights, wall lights, downlights and reading lights and is easily replaced with an LED alternative. This disc type LED G4 is used to provide light in one direction and are best used in downlighters, ceiling lights and spotlights.
All of our G4 LED lamps are voltage regulated and are not polarity sensitive - i.e. the LED will light up whichever way the positive and negative power is applied so no rewiring is required.
Our LED G4 are available with 12V AC/DC running or 10-30V DC, The operation of the lights must happen on batteries or suitable LED transformers. Non-suitable transformers, like electronic transformers mostly applied in households for kitchen lights for instance, simply ruin the LEDs, and the lights melt. Our warranty specifically excludes damage to LED lamps due tounsuitable power supplies.
What is the defference between warm white and cool white?
The LED G4 lights are available in bright (cold) white and warm white colours. The colour temperature is measured in Kelvin, and high Kelvin numbers (above 5000) are considered bright white, while lower numbers (around 3000) are warm white. Warm colours are yellowish, more resembling sunlight, these LED G4 lights emit a very similar light to halogens. Bright white colours are bluish rather, resembling moonlight. These lights are brighter in performance as well. These two colours create whole different atmosphere in the room.
How to replace G4 halogen lamp with G4 Led bulbs correctly?
Most G4 Led lamps or bulbs require a 12V DC input voltage, while, as aforementioned, typical G4 halogen lamps are driven with a 12V AC transformers. Driving a G4 led lamp/bulb with improper 12V AC transformer, may cause risks of failures, either G4 lamp not working, or G4 lamp flickering, or G4 led lamp going out shortly.
Nowadays some leading manufacturers, i.e. Philips, offer a 12V AC/DC G4 Led lamp/bulb, which has wide compatibility with existing 12V AC halogen transformers. Since there are too many kinds of halogen transformers from different manufacturers/brands, we suggest customers to buy a couple of samples to test the compatibility firstly before placing order, or change the 12V AC halogen transformer with a 12V DC LED power supply/transformer.
Tips to replace G4 halogen lamp with G4 Led lamps/bulbs?
Many users encountered problems during replacing G4 halogen lamps with G4 Led capsules/bulbs, either G4 lamp not working, or G4 lamp flickering, or lamp going out shortly. Here below are some tips for people who desire to replace G4 halogen lights with G4 led bulbs/lamps.
- Identify the power of in-use G4 halogen lamps on existing light fixture, and decide which power of led bulb to choose. Usually 10W G4 halogen needs a 1.5W~2W Led bulb to replace.
- Measure the max. allowable size inside the light fixture. This is to avoid fitting issue between G4 led bulb and your light fixture.
- Check whether your G4 halogen lamp is powered by an electromagnetic transformer, or an electronic transformer. In past years electronic transformers are more frequently used in various fixtures because of its lower cost.
Tips about transformer:
- If it’s an electromagnetic transformer, what you need do is just to select a 12V AC G4 Led bulb with proper power & size.
- If it’s an electronic transformer, things are more complicated, because currently Led lamp has a bad compatibility with electronic transformer, and nobody can offer an universal G4 Led bulb, which has full compatibility with all kinds of electronic transformer, even Philips, Osram. Therefore, you’d better take a couple of samples to test before you replace all G4 halogen lamps. Or, you can choose a 12V DC G4 Led bulb, and 12V DC transformers, to replace both G4 halogen lamp and halogen transformer. For new installation, it’s highly suggested to choose 12V DC G4 Led bulb & 12V DC transformer because its reliability.
