Traditional American White Oak stair treads are 1 1/16 "(25mm) & 1 3/4 "(38mm) thick . These treads are sometimes identified by their part number --White Oak Plain Stair Tread.Most of the stairs are UV finihsed or oiled finished , but this new item with a different finihsed -- wire brushed . To achieve the desired texture, the oak blocks are first machine-brushed to remove the soft spring wood, leaving the harder summer wood with some slightly sunken knots. This accentuates the grain and figuring and gives the floor and distinct look which is perfect for period properties, or as a contrast to a modern interior. Brushing also has a more practical purpose; any height variations in the blocks after installation will be unnoticeable, due to the texture created by the brushing.
Yorking Hardwood White Oak stair treads are made from 100% solid FAS and Select Grade White Oak and shipped pre-sanded and ready for a coat of stain and polyurethane to be applied on site.
