The SC8916 is a multi-channel hardware video encoder compatible with H.264/AVC baseline video coding standard, with the capability of real-time encoding for 4-channel D1 with sub stream of 4-channel CIF or 16-channel CIF with sub stream of 16-channel QCIF. It supports special functions such as de-noise, de-interlace, VBR/CBR bit rate control, OSD, mask/focus, digital watermark, etc. For audio, it supports 8-channel G711 or ADPCM encoding or 1-channel decoding. With functions of powerful, good compressing, easy interface and easy operation, the chip is applicable for video compression capture card, digital video recorder (DVR), digital video server (DVS) and so on.

* Support dual-stream real-time compression, main-stream resolution of each channel can be independently configured; sub-stream of each channel supports QCIF and CIF formats and support 16-channel dual-stream in maximum;
* Support adjustable frame rate with range of  PAL: 1/4 fps ~ 25 fps, NTSC: 1/4 fps ~ 30 fps;
* Each encoding channel can be turned on and off independently, the on/off of main/sub stream is also independent;
* Frame rate, bit rate and resolution can be set independently for each encoding channel;
* The structure of GOP(Group of Pictures) is adjustable, supporting the P frames up to 255;
* Video Pre-processing include noise reduction, reduce output code rate and improve video quality;
* Support de-interlace
* Support digital watermark function;
* Support excellent motion detect function which can follow the shape and track of image clearly;
* Provide region mask and focus function which meets the users’ requirements for the special region;
* Provide OSD (On-screen Display) function, each video channel can control the OSD on/off independently; Provide built-in time OSD function shared by each channel and user-defined OSD function with independent configuration of each channel; support maximum 32 characters display, namely 32 English letters, symbols or 16 user-defined lattice Chinese characters (Size: 16×16);
* Preview video output picture can be segmentation output, stepless scalar, can be previewed as 1/4/16 segmentations.
2. Audio
* Real-time audio 8-channel encode, 1-channel decode function;
* Audio Codec standard: IMA-ADPCM, G.711;
* Configurable sample rate: 8~96KHz.
3. Interface
* 16-bit general-purpose parallel interface (HPI), can be directly connected to the CPU such as ARM, MCU, etc., compliance with Intel timing sequence, support Burst mode transmission and asynchronous burst mode;
* 32-bit 33/66 MHz PCI interface, support Master/Slave mode;
* Reused pins for PCI bus and HPI bus, depended on the mode pins. PCI bus shared with HPI bus, decided by setting the pin state when power on reset;
* Four 8-bit ITU-R656 video input interfaces, support 54MHz in maximum. Input 4-channel D1 or 16-channel Half D1/CIF images through time division multiplex access mode, support Techwell video input protocol, can be directly connected to the video output interface of TW2815, TW2864, etc;
* Two I2C interface, support Master mode;
* 8 GPIO pins;
* Five I2S interfaces (pins WS and SCK of four I2S are reused), support multiple audio inputs through one I2S at one time, support I2S protocol of TW2815 and TW2866;
* SDRAM interface, 32bit bus, 32MB capacity with speed up to 166MHz; All digital I/O can be compatible with 5V voltage input.
