Welded gabion box is widely used in retaining wall structure, rockfall and soil protection and so on. Welded gabions are filled on site with hard and durable stone to form mass gravity structures. And welded gabions are more quicker and simpler to be installed than woven mesh gabions.

 

Welded gabion box is manufactured from cold steel wire with high tensile strength. It is electrically welded together then hot dipped galvanized or PVC coated, ensuring a longer life. There are galvanized welded gabion and PVC welded gabions. Gabion boxes are designed on the principle of mass earth retaining wall. The strength of the wire mesh helps to stand the forces generated by the retained soil.

Standard wire diameter of welded gabion box:


Heavily Galvanised or zinc coated wire: 2.2mm, 2.5mm, 2.7mm, 3.0mm, 4.0mm, 5.0mm.
Plastic coated on heavily Galvanised or zinc coated wire: 2.5mm/2.8mm, 2.7mm/3.0mm, 3.0mm/3.3mm, 4.0mm/4.3mm, 5.0mm/5.3mm.

 

Application: welded gabion box is widely used for the control and guide of water; preventing of rock breaking; water and soil, roadway and bridge protection; strengthening structure of soil; protection engineering of seaside area and retaining wall structures; hydraulic structures, dams and culverts; coastal embankment works; architectural feature retaining walls.


How to install welded gabion box?


Step 1. Ends, diaphragms, front and back panels are placed upright on the bottom section of wire mesh.
Step 2. Secure panels by screwing spiral binders through the mesh openings in adjacent panels.
Step 3. Stiffeners shall be placed across the corners, at 300mm from the corner. Providing a diagonal bracing, and crimped over the line and cross wires on the front and side faces. None are needed in interior cells.
Step 4. Gabion box is filled with graded stone by hand or with a shovel.
Step 5. After filling, close the lid and secure with spiral binders at the diaphragms, ends, front and back.
Step 6. When stacking tiers of the welded gabion box, the lid of the lower tier may serve as the base of the upper tier. Secure with spiral binders and add pre-formed stiffeners to exterior cells before filling with graded stones.
